The practice of contemporary esthetics is one that encompasses a variety of different things. There are salon and spa esthetics, dental esthetics and medical esthetics. In today's society the pursuit of beauty and youth is very important to many people. Those who can afford to look their best (and even those on a budget) choose to visit a professional esthetician to handle various cosmetic issues including skin care and even dentistry. One thing that is very popular is tooth whitening. It seems like everyone wants their smile brightened.There are procedures like Zoom Whitening that are done in a dentist's office and thus require the assistance of a dental esthetician. Orthodontics, veneers and dental implants are also very common these days. Many dentists handle traditional, restorative and cosmetic dentistry at one practice. Of course dental esthetics is not quite as popular as traditional skin care esthetics. A skin care esthetician can perform a variety of services and handle many different skin care issues.
For example, they might administer facials and handle the extraction of blemishes. Estheticians can also recommend skin care products and techniques to their clients. There are many different things you can do in this career field. There are even levels of skill like basic and master esthetician. In order to reach master status you must complete an extensive training program that is most likely going to be twice as long and much more challenging than the basic licensing program. Of course upon completion you will be able to provide more services and most likely make more money.
There are innovations being developed everyday in the field of contemporary esthetics. Many estheticians are learning to work with various chemical peels, laser light therapies and more. There are conferences held around the world where professionals in this field get together to attend workshops, buy and sell products and much more. The largest is the International Congress of Esthetics which was held last spring in Dallas. This event helps keep attendees up to date on the latest trends, techniques and developments for estheticians.
